INDOT requests public feedback through Jan. 5
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is encouraging public feedback on ProPEL Indy, a transportation planning study that will inform the next 20 years of investment to modernize I-65 and I-70 inside the I-465 loop. The study team has identified 24 potential solutions that may address transportation needs within the study area with the release of its draft Universe of Concepts Screening Report.
Potential solutions included in the Universe of Concepts encompass a wide range of possibilities that could be applied to various locations on I-65 and I-70 to improve bridge and pavement conditions, safety, mobility, and multimodal connectivity. A short video summary of the report is available here. The full report and supporting documents can be found on the ProPEL Indy website.
“Input from hundreds of stakeholders who use, work, or live near the interstates has helped the study team identify a wide range of potential solutions,” said INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith. “As a result, the public may see options at this stage that they support and others they do not. However, it’s important to include a variety of options to ensure a thorough review of all possibilities and continued public feedback is vital to that effort.”
Twenty-four potential solutions were identified through previous studies, federal, state, and local agency input, and public feedback, and all were evaluated based on transportation needs, desired outcomes, and for critical flaws. A full list of potential concepts is available online at ProPELIndy.com, and at locations throughout the study area. INDOT is inviting public feedback through January 5, 2025. Comments may be submitted on the ProPEL Indy website.
The release of the draft Universe of Concepts Screening Report represents the initial step of a two-level screening process. In the next phase, the study team will further evaluate and refine improvement concepts for specific locations within the study area, after reviewing public input. The result will be a smaller number of potential solutions with increased detail that will assist in the evaluation of benefits, impacts and costs.
INDOT encourages the public to continue sharing input throughout all stages of the study at ProPELIndy.com.
